THREADING IRON FOR MARKING LEATHER
This leatherworker's threading iron has a guide that allows you to make a thread on the edge of the leather.
This tool allows you to make a net on the edge of your piece of leather,
- either with the cold stamping technique (for vegetable tanned leather): in this case, this tool is used as a former,
- either with the hot stamping technique (for mineral tanned leather): in this case, you must proceed as follows:
Beforehand, you must heat your blade on a gas stove; this operation must be repeated regularly as the blade cools.
The appearance of the net on the leather depends on several parameters, such as the temperature of the tool, the speed of passage over the leather and the pressure exerted on the tool. It is recommended to adjust these settings on scraps of the same leather before making it.
Space between the edge of the leather and the net made of your choice: 1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm or 2.5 mm
