To thin the leather or make an edge: use a blade or a paring knife!
The paring knife (or doloire) is a tool used in leatherwork to thin leather skins: leather trimming. It is practical for assemblies: sewing 2 pieces of leather together without creating extra thickness but also for dressing the edges (edge): this way you can fold the leather on itself and have a perfect finish. At Deco Cuir, we offer different sizes of paring knives, from different brands, for right-handed and left-handed people and with straight or oblique blades. A paring knife must be sharpened very regularly (we invite you to watch our video on sharpening). The French edge removes the sharp edge as well as a more or less wide strip of leather (useful for trimming the leather).
