Leatherwork involves a series of manipulations, each requiring a suitable tool. Deco Cuir has one of France's largest catalogs of leatherworking tools.
Tools for tracing, modeling, cutting leather
The process of creating a leather object requires following precise steps that require appropriate tools: tracing shapes, cutting, embossing, marking…
Tracing and modeling tools
To cut pieces of leather according to the desired shape, choose one of our tracing tools such as pens, markers, compasses, templates, rulers, squares… We also offer all useful accessories for modeling, embossing, and leather carving.
Punches
Our punch tools are used to achieve a clean cut of the leather. They are available in various sizes and shapes: round, rectangle, square, moon, parachute, drop, star, circumflex, heart... These punches allow you to punch holes in the leather before attaching saddlery accessories such as snap fasteners, rivets, or eyelets.
Leather cutting tools
For a piece of leather to have the dimensions of the chosen template, several cutting tools can be used: the utility knife, the rotary cutter, or the head knife. To make the edges of the leather more rounded, choose an edge beveler of appropriate size relative to the leather's thickness. Our range includes the necessary utensils for thinning the leather and avoiding excess thickness: French edge beveler, paring knife, or half-moon foot knife. We also offer strap cutters and lace cutters.
Tools for attaching accessories
Once the leather piece is punched, the next step is to attach eyelets, magnetic snaps, and other saddlery accessories. Depending on the type of fastener chosen, several setting tools are available, such as manual press pliers, bench presses, and striking handles. Our stock includes many setting kits and striking handles to optimize tightening during the placement of saddlery accessories.
Tools for hot stamping and edge finishing
The aesthetics of leather creations also depend on the finishes. Deco Cuir provides all kinds of tools for hot stamping and finishing the edges of leather pieces.
Hot leather engraving
Hot stamping mineral or vegetable tanned leathers allows letters or patterns to be inscribed on the animal hide. It requires a type holder, a handle, and brass types. To heat the type holder, you can choose between a torch, a hot press, and a creasing iron. We also offer colored transfer films that enhance the marking and give it shine.
A beautiful finish on the edges
For elegant leather creations, edge finishing is essential. We provide you with all the useful accessories for this operation:
- tools for applying liquid finishing product: roller pen, awl, applicator pad or roller
- abrasive sponges for sanding before and after finishing
- creasing irons or manual irons to smooth the edge.
Leather carving tools
Thanks to the carving technique, you can create unique embossed designs on leather. The most suitable material for carving is vegetable-tanned leather because its flexibility and water absorption capacity facilitate the work of embossed patterns. Our range of leather carving tools includes stamps, swivel knives, embossing wheels, transfer tracing paper… You can choose from over 400 stamps supplied by renowned brands such as Barry King Tools, Ivan, OKA, and Tandy Leather,
Handle stamps
After incising the leather with a swivel knife, you can use a handle stamp. They are classified into different families identified by letters of the alphabet. The available patterns and shapes are numerous.
3D stamps
3D stamps are larger and more detailed. They are used to create realistic designs and must be mounted on a standard or heavy marking handle.
Alphabet stamps
They allow you to mark leather with uppercase or lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
