Stain removers and cleaners for leather and textiles: care that beautifies and protects
Maintain your leather or gently clean your leather and textile items with glycerin soap or cleaning milk.
Glycerin soaps for leather
Whether solid, liquid, gel, or spray, glycerin-based leather cleaners have a composition similar to saddle soaps used for decades in stables.
Clean and nourish leather with a leather cleaner
These soaps are rich in glycerin, a product derived from saponification using animal or vegetable fats. They work effectively on leather by combining:
- deep cleaning;
- effective hydration that maintains the suppleness and shine of the leather;
- preservation of the animal skin's coloration;
- creation of a protective barrier against external aggressions.
Gentle and easy-to-apply cleaners
Glycerin soaps for leather are used after removing dust with a soft brush or dry cloth. They can be applied with a damp (non-abrasive) sponge, sometimes provided. After rubbing the leather, a second clean damp sponge is used to remove residues. Polishing requires a soft, clean cloth. When the leather is dry, it is advisable to use a nourishing cream or milk.
Stain removers for leather and textiles
Depending on the material to be cleaned and the type of stain, there are different kinds of stain removers. Available in spray, lotion, or powder form, they do not require rinsing.
Stain removers for all types of textiles and leathers
Some stain removers, often called leather and textile detachers, are suitable for most leathers (smooth, velvety, suede, nubuck, etc.) and textiles (wool, cotton, silk, polyester, etc.). They are perfect for cleaning items that combine different materials.
However, it is important to check the list of compatible materials written on each stain remover before choosing it. Common exceptions include reptile and patent leathers, as well as waterproof or rubberized fabrics.
The main stains targeted by these removers are grease and sebum. Greasy stains are caused, for example, by butter, oil, sauces, fuel oil, or grease. Sebum traces are frequently found on leather clothing, around the wrists and collar, and on leather seats, where the head and neck rest.
For recent greasy dirt, using Sommières clay is an effective natural solution. This dry stain remover works deeply and by capillarity.
Leather stain removers
Specifically designed for leather, available in spray or liquid form, they often work deeply to tackle ingrained stains. Leather stain removers notably remove resin or silicone deposits that sometimes remain after labels have been removed.
Some stain removers are exclusively for cleaning ballpoint pen marks. They can be used on smooth leathers. Other products target white streaks caused by water, salt, or snow.
Cleaning leather with a chamois or microfiber cloth then becomes a breeze!
Textile stain removers
To clean, deodorize, and enhance the color of upholstery textiles, textile stain removers are easy to use because they do not foam. They effectively eliminate odors left by pets. When they are in liquid form, they can be diluted if the level of dirt is low.
Textile stain removers are even capable of cleaning delicate textiles such as wall tapestries or Alcantara, which is used for car seats.
Milks and creams that nourish leather
These care products are designed to beautify leather. They sometimes combine cleaning and nourishment of the leather. The composition of leather creams and milks often includes vegetable oils and waxes, as well as beeswax.
Nourishing products for leather are applied with a soft cloth or chamois.
