FINISHING GUM FOR VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER
Gum arabic is a natural product harvested either by incising a trunk or from the base of Acacia trees.Natural gum arabic waterproofs and binds leather fibers. It allows you to smooth the edges of vegetable-tanned leather and give them a smooth and shiny finish.
Instructions for use:
- Shake the bottle well before use.
- Apply a thin layer of the product to the edge, which should have been previously rounded with an edge creaser.
- Rub the edge vigorously with a cloth or a burnisher/slicker to warm it up.
- Repeat the operation until the desired smoothness is obtained.
- Clean tools with soap and water.
Tip: tint gum arabic with water-based dye (see video).
What is the difference between tragacanth gum and gum arabic?
Gum arabic and tragacanth gum are obtained by the same process but do not come from the same sap. Unlike tragacanth gum, gum arabic is water-soluble, which explains why the gum is much more liquid. Both gums are applied in the same way; gum arabic gives a slightly darker result.
