The Fil Au Chinois brand was founded by François-Philibert Vrau in November 1847, after he created his company in Lille twenty years earlier. Its success was instantaneous, particularly thanks to its new presentation model for sewing thread: balls wrapped with a label and arranged in boxes.
In the 1850s, the Fil Au Chinois company developed prodigiously with the arrival of the founder's son: Philibert Vrau and his incredible business acumen. Success was immediate: annual sales, which were 282,000 boxes in 1864, multiplied by 7 in 10 years, reaching 1,950,000 boxes in 1875!
Why the name "Fil Au Chinois"?
The explanation is old, dating back to a time when interest in the Orient in France was a general trend, with various maritime expeditions being conducted and the global opening of China and Japan. The choice of name was part of this cultural movement.

In 2007, Olivier and Bruno Toulemonde took over the company, restoring the production machines and deciding to bring Fil Au Chinois back to its former glory!

Fil Au Chinois employs about fifty people at its two production sites in Bondues (59) and Marcq-en-Barœul (59). The brand remains famous in the leather sewing world for its products of incomparable strength.
