What tools do you need to cut leather?
First of all, don't forget to protect your workbench or worktop with a self-healing cutting mat! And discover our special pattern cardboard (320 g/m2) to back your paper patterns before cutting (hold on the leather with a weight or masking tape).
Classic utility knife
A utility knife is one of the essential tools for cutting leather.
For a clean and precise cut, you need to choose a quality utility knife and regularly change the blade so that it is always perfectly sharp. Don't hesitate to pass the blade multiple times to cut the leather (make several passes without applying too much pressure).
We recommend the Deco Cuir 9 mm utility knife (ref. TB249). Its pointed stainless steel blade, angled at 30°, allows for clean cuts.

Rotary cutter
A rotary cutter also allows for precise leather cutting, and it is particularly useful for rounded cuts and long straight lines.

Round knife - The essential tool
This valuable leather cutting tool is used by professionals. Its high-strength steel blade must be sharpened regularly.

A good pair of scissors
Soft and thin leathers can be cut with a pair of scissors (if they are sharp). We recommend Kai Professional brand scissors, which are of exceptional quality!
Straight slitting knives - OKA
With a single mallet strike, they allow for a straight, clean, and precise cut to make a slot for a collar button, connect 2 round holes to create a strap loop... 5 cutting widths available.

How to make a hole in leather?
Punch tool
Round punches allow for easy perforation of leather before attaching accessories, sewing, or lacing. They should be used on an Ertalon block and struck with a mallet. There is a multitude of punches, in all shapes and sizes, to create the shape of your choice in leather (pattern, slits, corners, belt tip...).

Revolving punch plier
The punch plier allows you to pierce leather effortlessly (to pierce your creations with 70% less effort) and silently. Several piercing diameters: from 1.5 to 6 mm.

Nonaka Screw Punch (the genuine one)
The rotary punch is a high-quality product, handcrafted in Japan. It allows you to punch holes (Ø 1 to 5 mm) in thick leather effortlessly and silently.

Circular cutter
Discover the circular compass for precisely and simply cutting leather circles from 1.8 to 17 cm in diameter! Made in Japan - 100% quality.

HOW TO NEATLY CUT A ROUNDED CORNER?
USING A STRAIGHT SKIVING KNIFE OR UTILITY KNIFE - WITHOUT A PUNCH
Making a nice rounded corner has never been easier than with a skiving knife and the "quarter cut" technique. We do not recommend cutting a rounded corner all at once, as you risk not getting a clean cut.
| Rotate the leather piece to continue cutting in quarters. | Using a straight skiving knife or utility knife: start cutting in quarters. |

| Using a template and a round awl: trace the curve on your leather. | Sand the curve with an abrasive sponge or sandpaper. |
