FOCUS ON SIMPLIFIED LEATHER SEWING
This technique of hand-stitching leather with holes makes this tutorial accessible to everyone. You can, of course, choose to use a "standard" saddle stitch.
SEE THE GUIDE >
1. CUT THE LEATHER PIECES
- Download the pattern and print it in actual size.
- Cut out the pattern, leaving about 1 cm of margin at the edge of the different pieces.
- Tape (using masking tape to avoid damaging the leather) the pieces to the pieces of leather.
- Drill the holes with a 1.5 mm diameter punch and cut out the different pieces with a cutter or rotary cutter.
2. WORK THE SLICES
Work on the edges of the cat's eyes, nose, ears, and the inner rectangle for the zipper. Start by sanding the edges of the leather pieces, then apply edge dye. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times.
3. GLUE THE LEATHER PIECES
Glue the small face pieces and the zipper to the places indicated on the pattern.
4. SEW THE PURSE
Sew the cat's face.
- Cut the thread: generally equivalent to 4 or 5 times the length of the sewing line.
- Thread a needle through each end of the thread.
- Sew by passing each needle through each hole one by one.
- Then tighten the stitch well.
Next, sew the zipper onto the leather strip.
To form a round shape, sew the two ends of the strip together. Then, sew the two leather circles edge to edge, wrong sides together with the strip. Use sewing clips to help position the leather pieces.
5. WORK THE SLICES
Finally, sand the edges of the purse and then apply edge stain. Apply 2 or 3 coats if necessary.
YOUR WALLET IS DONE!
You are now ready to sew the cat backpack!
