MATERIALS NEEDED
To complete this tutorial, you will need:
- 1 piece of leather, 15 x 20 cm, between 1.2 and 1.4 mm thick
- 1 piece of leather, 15 x 20 cm, 0.5 mm thick
- 1 zipper, 25 cm
- 1 keyring
- 1 edge finish
And the following equipment:
- 1 utility knife or scissors
- 1 sewing machine

MACHINE SEWING LEATHER
Discover the essential points to know before you start machine sewing leather (with a household machine) in the guide below.
1. PRINT THE PATTERN
Download and print the pattern to actual size. Cut out the paper pattern and transfer it to the leather with a silver pen according to the following distribution:
- Pieces P1 and P2 (hearts) on the 1.2/1.4 mm thick piece.
- Pieces P3, P4 and P5 (gusset and strips) on the 0.5 mm thick piece.

Cut out the leather pieces with a utility knife or scissors.

Erase the silver pen with a crepe rubber.

2. WORK THE EDGES
Finish the edges of both hearts (pieces P1 and P2) with edge finish.

3. SEW THE FACING STRIP
First, glue one side of piece P4 to one end of the zipper with double-sided tape.

Then, sew 1 mm from the edge of the leather strip.

Cut and burn the ends of the zipper to avoid bulk.

Sew the second side of piece P4 to the other end of the zipper, 1 mm from the edge.

4. SEW THE TAB
Fold strip P5 (leather piece 0.8 x 40 mm) in half and sew it onto the zipper, 6 cm from the slider. The fold of the strip should be towards the zipper teeth.

5. SEW THE GUSSET
Apply double-sided tape to each side of the gusset (piece P3), on the grain side of the leather.

Then, glue one side of the gusset (edge to edge) to the wrong side of the zipper: the middle of the gusset should be positioned at the metal stop of the zipper. Stitch 3 mm from the edge to hold the first side of the gusset in place.

For a better understanding, here is a final view.

6. SEW THE 1ST HEART
Sew piece P1 onto the zipper. Note that the point of the heart should be opposite the metal zipper stop.

To begin sewing, stitch approximately 5 stitches before the point of the heart. Sew piece P1 2 mm from the edge of the leather and 3 mm from the edge of the zipper.
! CAUTION ! Go slowly, this step is a bit technical.
- Make sure the sewing machine needle is always down when you move the work.
- Also pay attention to curves: at the top of the heart, the leather should come against the zipper teeth during stitching to ensure that the zipper is properly stitched at the indentations.
- Use double-sided tape and sewing clips to hold the pieces if needed (or glue the pieces).
- The zipper must be open when sewing.

7. SEW THE SECOND PART OF THE GUSSET
Glue the second side of the gusset onto the zipper. Then, sew 3 mm from the edge.

8. SEW THE SECOND HEART
Place the point of the heart opposite the metal zipper stop.

Then, sew all around piece P2 onto the zipper. Use double-sided tape or clips to hold the pieces.
Follow the same sewing instructions as in step 6.
Then, cut and burn the sewing threads.

9. YOU ARE DONE!
All that's left is to insert the round ring into the tab and you're good to go!

Bonjour,

Merci
