EQUESTRIAN HARNESS LEATHER

The chocolate bridle reins made of butt leather are crafted from NIAGARA leather from the Radermecker tannery. Niagara saddle leather is 100% natural, full-grain, unpressed, uncorrected, smooth, grain and flesh-dyed leather. This premium leather is nourished to the core in a tallow bath, a historic know-how of the Radermecker tannery.
It is ideal for making snaffle, bridle, or headcollar reins.

Animal: Bovine
Tanning: Vegetable

Characteristics of Niagara saddle leather:
Niagara leather is nourished by immersion in a tallow vat (a mixture of paraffin and beef fat), and is called "greased leather". This tallow bath gives the leather better water resistance, nourishes it over a long period, and facilitates cutting and working the leather. Greased leather is recommended for outdoor use.

The tallow allows for maintenance-free leather since the fat is constantly released to the surface of the leather, providing it with the necessary nourishment and an excellent patina. Thanks to this nourishment, Niagara saddle leather has advanced resistance to outdoor use, repelling any external disturbances (water / saline environment / animal sweat). This saddle leather is therefore suitable for intensive wear such as equestrian activities. The aniline finish allows the dyed leather to retain its natural appearance.
Tooling on Niagara leather is not recommended, because with its nourishment in a fat bath, the leather will return to its natural thickness, and the embossed patterns will fade over time.

Care instructions for Niagara saddle leather:
Thanks to the nourishment in a tallow bath, the fat is impregnated throughout the entire thickness of the Niagara saddle leather, so no nourishment is needed over time. Nourishment can be applied to the grain to maintain its greasy appearance or accelerate the leather's patina. This care of the grain ensures a longer lifespan. Our Niagara saddle leather will resist humidity. Simply let it dry at room temperature to restore its appearance. Due to its nourishment in a tallow bath (fats), a whitish film of paraffin can form on the surface during temperature shocks. Simply rub it to make it disappear.
