VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER STRAP - COGNAC

This cognac strap made from butt leather is crafted from NIAGARA leather from the Radermecker tannery. Niagara saddlery leather is 100% natural, full-grain, unpressed, uncorrected, smooth, dyed grain and flesh. This premium leather is nourished throughout with a tallow bath, an historical expertise of the Radermecker tannery. It is ideal for making leather goods or cutlery items: belts, bag handles, bracelets, watch straps, dog and cat collars...

Features:
- Animal: Bovine
- Tanning: Vegetable
- Range: Equestrian - Niagara
- Color: Cognac
- Finish: Aniline and greased
- Grain: Smooth
- Width: 40 mm
- Thickness: Between 3 and 3.5 mm
- Origin: Belgium - Radermecker Tannery

As this strap is made from unpressed, uncorrected full-grain leather, slight signs of the animal's life may be apparent and are not considered defects. They contribute to the authentic appearance of the leather.

Niagara saddlery leather is nourished by immersion in a tallow vat (a mixture of paraffin and beef fat), and is called "greased leather". This tallow bath gives the leather better water resistance, nourishes it over a long period, and facilitates cutting and working with the leather. Greased leather is recommended for outdoor use.

The tallow allows for maintenance-free leather since the fat is constantly released to the surface of the leather, providing the necessary nourishment and an excellent patina. Thanks to this nourishment, Niagara saddlery leather has advanced resistance for outdoor use; it will repel all external disturbances (water / saline environment). This saddlery leather is therefore suitable for intensive wear, such as in the equestrian sector. The aniline finish allows the dyed leather to retain its natural appearance.

Uses of the dyed Niagara butt leather strap:

The dyed Niagara butt leather strap can be used for all leather goods, small leather goods, and cutlery items: belts, bag handles, bracelets, watch straps, dog and cat collars, etc. It is the most suitable leather for making belts due to its natural finish, resistance to elongation, and nourishment, which ensures a long lifespan.
For a perfect finish of the edges of Niagara butt leather, we recommend applying an edge finish.
Stamping work on our Niagara leather is not recommended, as with its grease bath nourishment, the leather will return to its natural thickness and embossed patterns will fade over time.

Maintenance tips for dyed Niagara butt leather straps:
For the maintenance of Niagara saddlery leather: thanks to the tallow bath nourishment, the fat is impregnated throughout the entire thickness of the Niagara saddlery leather, so no nourishment is needed over time. Nourishment can be applied to the grain to maintain its oily appearance or accelerate the leather's patina. This care of the grain ensures a longer lifespan. Our Niagara saddlery leather will resist moisture. Simply let it dry at room temperature to restore its appearance. Due to its nourishment in a tallow bath (grease), a whitish film of rising paraffin may form during temperature changes. Simply rub it to make it disappear.
