This leather is a “tannery choice”, meaning that the skins have been carefully selected and therefore have very few defects. As a reminder, leather without defects does not exist. Vegetable tanned leather is a quality leather that does not hide the animal's traces of life and develops a patina over time. With this type of leather, you must carefully arrange the templates for your creations before cutting.
Characteristics of Gavarnie leather:
Gavarnie saddle leather is the leather for horse saddle quarters. Gavarnie quarter leather is an uncorrected full grain leather, grained Peccary grain. This leather has a semi-aniline finish. This finish is done by applying a combination of an aniline layer and a pigmented layer, lightly covering the skin. The colors are therefore more uniform, the roughness of the skin is slightly veiled, and the leather therefore resists dirt more easily. Vegetable tannins give firmness and strong resistance to elongation. It has a through tint and a smooth tinted crust. Gavarnie full grain leather is nourished with emulsion oil. It is a food in liquid oil that we add to our drums. The leather will feed on oil in order to be nourished. This leather offers both flexibility accompanying the movements of the saddle quarter and firmness to return flat and smooth after multiple folds.
Gavarnie leather care tips:
Pay particular attention to exposure to light, which can alter the colors of your leathers, always dust your leathers with a dry cloth before applying a specific treatment. In case of contact with water, allow your leather to dry naturally, at room temperature, without an additional heat source.
For maintenance, food can be applied to the flower to ensure its oily appearance or accelerate the patina of the leather. This care of the flower ensures a longer lifespan.
