This leather is a "tannery choice," meaning the hides have been carefully selected and therefore have very few defects. As a reminder, defect-free leather does not exist. Vegetable-tanned leather is a quality leather that does not hide the animal's life traces and develops a patina over time. With this type of leather, you must judiciously place the patterns of your creations before cutting.

Characteristics of Gavarnie leather:
Gavarnie saddlery leather is the leather for horse saddle skirts. Gavarnie skirt leather is an uncorrected full-grain leather with a peccary grain. This leather benefits from a semi-aniline finish. This finish is achieved by applying a combination of an aniline layer and a pigmented layer, lightly covering the skin. The colors are therefore more uniform, the roughness of the skin is slightly veiled, and the leather thus resists dirt more easily. Vegetable tannins provide firmness and strong resistance to elongation. It has a through-dye and a smooth, colored flesh side. Gavarnie full-grain leather is nourished with an oil emulsion. This is a liquid oil nourishment that we add to our fulling mills. The leather will absorb the oil to be nourished. This leather offers both flexibility accompanying the movements of the saddle skirt and firmness to return flat and smooth after multiple folds.

Maintenance tips for Gavarnie leather:
Pay particular attention to light exposure, which can alter the colors of your leathers, and always dust your leathers with a dry cloth before applying a specific treatment. In case of contact with water, let your leathers dry naturally, at room temperature, without additional heat sources.
For maintenance, nourishment can be applied to the grain side to maintain its oily appearance or accelerate the leather's patina. This care of the grain ensures a longer lifespan.
