Saphir Leather Dye
Have your leather shoes lost their shine? Is your favorite bag showing signs of discoloration? Saphir French Dye is the solution for redyeing all your items in smooth leather, velvet, nubuck, or suede.
Why choose Saphir dye?
Made in France by Saphir, the benchmark for leather care since 1920, this dye combines performance, durability, and ease of use. With over 100 years of expertise in leather care and restoration, Saphir is today the reference brand for cobblers, saddlers, and leather goods enthusiasts. Choosing Saphir French Dye means opting for recognized French savoir-faire, a product formulated without compromising on quality, and a result worthy of a professional workshop.
With Saphir French Dye, you have in your hands a dye used by professionals, to easily dye your leather.
Saphir French dye is an alcohol-based dye. It penetrates deeply into the leather fibers to offer a uniform, even, and durable color. Unlike simple surface paint, the dye does not crack or flake over time.
The French Dye: a wide range of colors
Available in several colors, from deep black to brown or navy blue, it adapts to all restoration or customization requirements.
All colors can be mixed together, allowing you to create your own custom shades if the color you need does not yet exist.
To create a custom shade, mix your dyes in a clean container before application. Always start with the lightest color, and gradually add the darker shade until you get the desired result.
On which products to use Saphir dye?
Saphir leather dye is suitable for a very wide range of everyday items. It can be used on leather goods (handbags, wallets, belts, cases, etc.) as well as on city shoes, boots, or accessories.
Whether you want to restore the original color of an aged item or change the shade to customize an item, the French Dye adapts to your projects.
Can light-colored leather be dyed a darker color?
Going from beige or natural leather to brown or black is the most common use. The opposite (lightening dark leather) is, however, impossible with a dye: leather cannot be lightened with this type of product.
How to use Saphir leather dye?
1. Before applying the dye to smooth leather, it is advisable to clean it to remove all traces of dye, varnish, and other finishes that would prevent the dye from penetrating correctly. For this, use Saphir Leather Stripper.
2. Shake the bottle well before each use.
3. Protect your hands with gloves and your work surface.
4. Apply the dye using a wool dauber.
5. Let dry for about 2 hours (drying time may vary depending on the thickness of the coat and ambient temperature).
6. Repeat the operation if necessary to obtain a uniform and intense coverage.
7. Once the dye is dry, apply a finishing product to moisturize the leather and fix the color:
- For your velvet and nubuck leathers, use Renovétine Saphir spray.
- For your smooth leathers, in good condition, apply a Surfine cream or a Canadian cream.
- For your smooth, worn leathers, apply Juvacuir Saphir.
- For your smooth, very worn leathers, apply Renovating Cream.
We recommend always testing the dye on an inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire piece.
Maintenance tips after leather dyeing
Once your leather is dyed, regular maintenance is essential to preserve the result over time. We advise you to nourish the leather with a suitable cream to compensate for the slight drying caused by the alcohol contained in the dye.
To maintain the vibrancy of the color, regular maintenance is recommended.
With Saphir French Leather Dye, you are not just buying a product: you are investing in the lifespan of your leather items. Restoring rather than discarding is also a responsible way to consume better and longer.
