THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT
To complete this tutorial, you will need:
- A twisted metal hanger
- Leather scraps, here we used batches of leather strap scraps.
You'll need about 1 kg of leather scraps to make a wreath, which is equivalent to 4 packs of 250g each. Alternatively, you can use whole leather strips (up to 160 cm long) and cut them into pieces.
- A brass bell, Ø 34 mm
And the following equipment:
- A box cutter or shears
- A 3mm round cookie cutter
- Black tear-resistant adhesive tape
Video
1. Form the hanger
Keep the metal hanger closed and bend it into a circle. Use flat-nose pliers to make it easier to shape and create a nice curve.

2. Cut pieces of strips
Cut strips of fabric between 12 and 18 cm in length. Use varying widths and lengths to make the wreath more aesthetically pleasing.

You need to cut about 1 kg of strips, or about 200-250 pieces (length between 12 and 18 cm) .

3. Pierce the leftover strips
Fold the strip pieces in half and make a 3 mm hole in the center. Use a round punch, a hole punch pliers or a press to make the holes.

4. Thread the leather pieces through the hanger
Open the hanger at the hook and twisted wire.

Then, pass the folded pieces of strip through the hanger. Alternate the different colours.

Once the hanger is full, close the twisted wire and wrap tear-resistant tape around the hanger hook. Here, we used black tear-resistant tape for aesthetic reasons and to ensure the hanger is securely closed.

5. Option: tie a knot
Make a leather bow or other decoration to finish off the Christmas wreath. Here, we decided to make a bow with a black leather strip lined with gold leather. We added a brass bell to the center of this bow.
Start by gluing two pieces of leather together. Here we've glued a firm black leather to a soft gold leather. You'll need a length of approximately 70 cm.

Cut a strip 70 cm long by 4 cm wide from the bonded leather.

Form the knot with the doubled leather strap and sew the brass bell to the center of the knot.
Make a 3mm hole just below the stitching point of the bell. Then, insert a rivet into the 3mm hole to secure the knot.

The bell hides the rivet. Next, work the ends of the knot into a triangle.

Finally, attach the knot to the hanger with a stitch.

You're done!
