DIY - Wooden and Leather Advent Calendar

THE NECESSARY MATERIALS

To make the advent calendar, you need:

• 6 wooden boards, 3 cm wide and 2.10 meters long. Our boards are 1 cm thick. Consider recycling! Length of each board:
  - 66 cm
  - 50 cm
  - 34 cm
  - 25.5 cm
  - 19 cm
  - 12 cm

• 24 screw-in hooks 3x16 mm (costs around €3.50 - buy from a DIY store).
• 24 leather bags with a diameter of 14.5 or 20 cm (here we have chosen bags with a diameter of 20 cm).
• 24 leather STAR cutouts - width 4 cm.
• 1 spool of 25 meters of round leather lace - diameter 2 mm.
• 2 m of round leather lace - diameter 4 mm.
• 24 T1 double-cap rivets as well as the set and installation tool.
• 1 punching cutter, diameter 2 mm.
• 1 silver pencil.
• 1 drill.
• 1 pair of scissors.

Total cost of the tutorial (excluding wood):

• €57.95 with 14.5 cm diameter bags
• 83.60 € with 20 cm diameter bags

1. PREPARE THE FIR TREE-SHAPED STRUCTURE

• Using a saw, cut your board into 6 lengths:

66 cm
50 cm
34 cm
25.5 cm
19 cm
12 cm

• Using a drill, drill through both ends of each board. A 5mm diameter hole is drilled 2.5cm from each edge.
• Take the 4 mm diameter round lace and tie a knot at one end. Then pass it through the hole in the first board and tie a knot at 14 cm. Proceed in the same way for the other boards (tie a knot every 14 cm). Leave 30 cm of lace for the "top of the tree".

2. PLACE THE HOOKS - PITONS

Using a drill, lightly drill (be careful not to go through the entire thickness) each wooden board according to the measurements indicated below. Then screw in the 24 hooks.

66 cm board: drill 2 holes at each end 1 cm from the lace then 7 holes every 7.5 cm.
50 cm board: drill 2 holes at each end 1 cm from the lace then 3 holes every 11 cm.
34 cm board: drill 2 holes at each end 1 cm from the lace then 2 holes every 11 cm.
25.5 cm board: drill 2 holes at each end 2.5 cm from the lace then 1 hole in the center 12.75 cm from the edge.
19 cm board: make 2 holes 6 cm from each edge.
12 cm board: make 1 hole 6 cm from the edge.

3. ASSEMBLE THE 24 LEATHER POUCHES

To make 1 purse you need 80 cm of round leather lace - 2 mm diameter. This lace will then be cut in 2 (40 cm).

4. MAKE A HOLE IN THE STAR AND THE PURSE

Using a punch pliers or a punching die: make a 2 mm hole on one of the arms of the star and on the purse.

5. ENTER THE NUMBER OF THE DAY

Using the silver pencil, write the number of the day on the stars.

6. RIVET THE STAR ON THE PURSE

Using the appropriate tool and set, place the T1 double-cap rivet to attach the star to the purse.
