Minor defects: Insect bites, light scratches, folds, stains or aesthetic defects that remain on the surface and do not weaken the skin.
Major defects: Holes or scratches that may go through the leather.
This leather is particular because there are several types of leather within one skin:
- center with scales, this is the ostrich tibia (the top scales may detach, you can use leather glue to secure them to the leather)
- side (small grains), this is the ostrich leg
- top and bottom, grains more or less firm.
The use of this leather is mainly for decorating small leather goods (wallets, card holders, coin purses...), pouches, watch straps or jewelry (pendants, bracelets, earrings).
It is advisable to favor small inclusions of material and combine it with another leather (calf or goat) to create contrasts and highlight the ostrich leg leather.
