This natural butt leather strap is made from NIAGARA leather from the Radermecker tannery. Niagara saddlery leather is 100% natural, full-grain, unpressed, uncorrected, smooth-grained, and flesh-dyed. This premium leather is nourished throughout in a tallow bath, a historical expertise of the Radermecker tannery.
It is ideal for making saddlery pieces, large belts, riding accessories...

Characteristics :
- Animal: Bovine
- Tanning: Vegetable
- Range: Equestrian - Niagara
- Color: Natural
- Finish: Aniline and greased
- Grain: Smooth
- Width: 35 mm
- Thickness: Between 3.5 and 4 mm
- Origin: Belgium - Radermecker Tannery

As this strap is an unpressed, uncorrected full-grain leather, slight signs of the animal's life may be apparent and are not considered defects. They contribute to the authentic appearance of the leather.

The butt is a leather made from the neck and the croupon, which allows for long strap lengths (see diagram).

Niagara leather is nourished by immersion in a vat of tallow (a mixture of paraffin and beef fat), and is called "greased leather". This tallow bath gives the leather better water resistance, nourishes it over a long period, and facilitates cutting and working the leather. Greased leather is recommended for outdoor use.

The tallow allows for maintenance-free leather as the grease is constantly released onto the surface of the leather, providing it with the necessary nourishment and an excellent patina. Thanks to this nourishment, Niagara saddlery leather has advanced resistance to outdoor use; it will repel all external disturbances (water / saline environment). This saddlery leather is therefore suitable for intensive wear, such as in the equestrian sector.

Uses of the natural Niagara butt leather strap :
The natural Niagara butt leather strap can be used in leather goods, especially when you need long lengths of leather: belts, bag handles, bracelets, watch straps, dog and cat collars, etc.
It is the most popular leather for making belts due to its natural finish, its resistance to elongation, and its nourishment which guarantees a long lifespan.
It can also be used for harness parts: halters, bridles, harnesses, bridle reins, headstalls, uprights, frontals, nosebands, lead ropes, throatlatches, and girths.
For a perfect finish of the edges of Niagara saddlery leather, we recommend applying an edge finish.
Tooling on our Niagara leather is not recommended because, with its nourishment in a grease bath, the leather will return to its natural thickness and embossed patterns will fade over time.

Maintenance tips for natural Niagara butt leather straps:
For the maintenance of Niagara saddlery leather, thanks to the nourishment in a tallow bath, the grease is impregnated throughout the thickness of the Niagara saddlery leather, so there is no need for nourishment over time. Nourishment can be applied to the grain to ensure its greasy appearance or to accelerate the leather's patina. This care of the grain ensures a longer lifespan. Our Niagara saddlery leather will resist humidity. Simply let it dry at room temperature to regain its appearance. Due to its nourishment in a tallow bath (grease), a whitish film of rising paraffin may form during temperature shocks. Simply rub it to make it disappear.
