It is ideal for making saddlery pieces, large belts, equestrian accessories...

As this strap is a full-grain, un-pressed, un-corrected leather, slight signs of the animal's life may be apparent and are not considered defects. They contribute to the authentic appearance of the leather.

Butt leather is made from the shoulder and rump, allowing for long strap lengths (see diagram).

Niagara leather is nourished by immersion in a vat of tallow (a mixture of paraffin and beef fat), and is called "greased leather". This tallow bath gives the leather better water resistance, nourishes it over a long period, and facilitates cutting and working the leather. Greased leather is recommended for outdoor use.

The tallow allows for maintenance-free leather as the grease is constantly released onto the leather's surface, providing necessary nourishment and an excellent patina. Thanks to this nourishment, Niagara saddlery leather has enhanced resistance for outdoor use, repelling all external disturbances (water / saline environment). This saddlery leather is therefore suitable for intensive wear, such as in the equestrian sector.

Uses of natural Niagara butt leather strap :
The natural Niagara butt leather strap can be used in leather goods, especially when you need long lengths of leather: belts, bag handles, bracelets, watch straps, dog and cat collars, etc.
It is the most sought-after leather for making belts thanks to its natural finish, its resistance to stretching, and its nourishment which guarantees a long lifespan.
It can also be used for harness parts: halters, bridles, harnesses, reins, headstalls, cheekpieces, browbands, nosebands, lead ropes, throatlatches, and girths.
For a perfect finish of the edges of Niagara saddlery leather, we recommend applying an edge finish.
Stamping work on our Niagara leather is not recommended because, with its grease bath nourishment, the leather will return to its natural thickness and the embossed patterns will fade over time.

Maintenance tips for natural Niagara butt leather straps:
For the maintenance of Niagara saddlery leather, thanks to the tallow bath nourishment, the fat is impregnated throughout the thickness of the Niagara saddlery leather, so no nourishment is needed over time. Nourishment can be applied to the grain to maintain its greasy appearance or accelerate the leather's patina. This grain care ensures a longer lifespan. Our Niagara saddlery leather will resist moisture. Simply let it dry at room temperature to restore its appearance. Due to its tallow bath (grease) nourishment, in case of temperature shocks, a whitish film of rising paraffin may form. Simply rub it to make it disappear.
