Description

DIAMOND POINT LEATHER STITCHING CHISEL

These pricking irons are used to mark the stitching interval on leather to achieve beautiful, even saddle stitches. The mark made is diamond-shaped (diamond point).

The spacing between each stitch is 3 mm. Ideal for small leather goods.

Oka is a Japanese manufacturer of professional leatherworking tools.
This range of high-quality tools, made in Japan, has a remarkable finish that makes it extremely pleasant to use.

Tool dimensions:
Number of teeth Total tool width
1 2.6 mm
2 5.2 mm
3 8.3 mm
4 11.3 mm
6 17.5 mm
10 30 mm

Length: 110 mm
Blade thickness: 1.4 mm

Usage tips:
- Use an ERTALON sheet, a vinyl sheet, or a self-healing mat as a cutting surface.
- Your chisel must be perfectly vertical when you strike.
- Strike with a wooden or polymer mallet; it should be heavy enough for a precise and less tiring cut. Do not use a steel hammer. With one strike of the mallet, you mark several holes in the leather for your stitching. You can also completely penetrate thin leathers (1mm max).
- When marking thick leathers, feel free to apply a thin layer of beeswax to the teeth to facilitate gliding and prevent damage to the chisel.

Hardened steel blade.
Very high wear resistance.

Which stitch spacing to choose for my creation?

Stitch spacing is the distance between two stitches: it should be chosen according to the item you wish to create (aesthetic choice).
Different stitch spacing/thread diameter combinations yield different aesthetic results: it's up to you to choose!

Table for guidance only:

Leather item Total leather thickness Stitch spacing Thread diameter
Small item (e.g., bookbinding, small leather goods) Max. 2.5 mm 2.5 to 3.38 mm 0.30 to 0.53 mm
Medium item (e.g., leather goods) Max. 4 mm 3.38 to 3.85 mm 0.54 to 0.70 mm
Large item (e.g., upholstery, saddlery, luggage) Max. 7 mm 4 to 6.75 mm 0.76 to 1.30 mm
