Description
GUM TRAGACANTH FIEBING'S
Fiebing's natural tragacanth gum smoothes the edges of natural or colored vegetable-tanned leathers . In addition to waterproofing the edge, the gum tragacanth will give a varnished appearance to the edges of the leather. Tips for use (see video):
- Shake the bottle well before use
- Apply Fiebing's Gum Tragacanth in a thin layer to the edge using a brush or applicator pad. Wait a few moments, then rub the edge briskly with a cloth or burnisher. The tragacanth dries and heats up depending on the friction caused, the edge will darken and shine
- Repeat the operation until the desired smoothness is obtained
- Cleaning tools with soap and water
You can also use tragacanth on the crust side of downy leather to bond the fibers.
Tip: tint tragacanth gum with water-based dye (see video).
What is the difference between gum tragacanth and gum arabic?
They are obtained by the same process but do not come from the same sap. Unlike tragacanth, gum arabic is soluble in water: which explains why the gum is much more liquid. These two gums are applied in the same way, gum arabic gives a slightly darker result.
