Technical training to master the sharpening of leather tools and leather trimming

Sharpening is the first technique to master and practice daily. This training aims to teach you how to sharpen and maintain your own tools, in order to achieve better performance in the various stages of leatherwork.

Paring is a technique to remove thickness from the ends of vegetable and mineral tanned leather in order to facilitate the assembly and sewing of the leather.

Level : Beginner. No prior technical knowledge is required. All techniques are accessible to everyone, except for the log splitter, which will only be operated by the instructor.
Price : €60 which includes training and loan of equipment.
Location : in the premises of our physical store in Campbon (44) located between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire in Loire-Atlantique.
Duration : 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Number of participants : 8 people maximum
Training not eligible for CPF funding.

Materials and tools :
Sharpening equipment (excluding strop) and leather are provided.
You will need to bring your own cutting tools to sharpen (diamond awl, edge beveler, paring knife, Indispensable paring knife, round cutter) and a leather strop .
Before the training, you have the option to purchase the necessary equipment in our physical store.

Our instructor, Anthony Hervy, is a leather craftsman who works with passion and respect for tradition. He will be attentive to your needs and can answer all your questions.

Program :

• Sharpening technique:
  - Applying polishing paste to the strop.
  - Learning about different abrasives and sharpening stones.
  - Sharpening the diamond awl.
  - Sharpening of the straight, oblique paring knife and the L'Indispensable paring knife.
  - Sharpening of the straight, curved and French square bevel.
  - Sharpening the round cookie cutter.
• Trimming technique:
  - Handling the tool and postures.
  - Learning to skive at an angle with the skiving blade.
  - Demonstration of the splitting machine (operated only by the trainer).

Spend an afternoon becoming an expert in sharpening and honing techniques.

At the end of the training you will have the opportunity to purchase equipment in our physical store.

If the number of participants is insufficient, DECO CUIR reserves the right to cancel the training.
Any cancellation reported no later than three weeks before the course will not give rise to any refund unless another trainee takes the place left available.
