Technical training to master sharpening leather tools and paring leather

Sharpening is the first technique to master and practice daily. This training aims to teach you how to sharpen and maintain your own tools, in order to achieve better performance in the different stages of leather work.

Paring is a technique for reducing the thickness of the edges of vegetable and mineral tanned leather to facilitate assembly and stitching.

Level : beginner. No prior technical knowledge is required. All techniques are accessible to everyone, except for the splitting machine which will only be operated by the trainer.
Price : €60 which includes tuition and equipment rental.
Location : at our physical store in Campbon (44) located between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire in Loire-Atlantique.
Duration : from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Number of participants : 8 people maximum
Training not eligible for CPF.

Materials and tools :
Sharpening equipment (excluding strop) and leather are provided.
It is necessary to bring your own cutting tools to sharpen (diamond awl, edge creaser, paring knife, L'Indispensable cutting knife, round punch) and a leather strop.
Before the training, you have the option to purchase the necessary equipment in our physical store.

Our trainer, Anthony Hervy, is a leather goods craftsman and works with passion and respect for traditions. He will be attentive to your needs and can answer all your questions.

Program :

• Sharpening technique :
  - Applying polishing compound to the strop.
  - Learning about different abrasives and sharpening stones.
  - Sharpening the diamond awl.
  - Sharpening the straight, oblique paring knife and the L'Indispensable cutting knife.
  - Sharpening the straight, curved, and French edge creaser.
  - Sharpening the round punch.
• Paring technique :
  - Handling the tool and postures.
  - Learning bevel paring with the paring blade.
  - Demonstration of the splitting machine (operated only by the trainer).

- If you add the "paper catalog" (free) to your order in the cart, shipping costs will be charged. We advise you to wait until the day of the training to discover it.
- If the number of participants is insufficient, DECO CUIR reserves the right to cancel the training.
- Any cancellation notified at the latest three weeks before the course will not result in any refund unless another trainee takes the available spot.
