Please note, this tool is not an ordinary awl; it is a testament to the intelligence and expertise of a French craftsman who has completely redesigned an ancient tool: the plier awl.
While everyone thought this tool would not evolve further, Jérôme David now offers you a very high-quality tool.
The awl is an extension of the hand; it must be pleasant to use to produce quality work. Among all the tools used by saddlers/leatherworkers, the awl is the one you will hold most often, so it is essential to equip yourself with a good tool.
By combining aesthetics, ergonomics, precious materials, and high technology, Jérôme David has invented the awl we have all dreamed of owning one day.
The blade is made of high-performance cobalt steel and comes perfectly sharpened.
The ferrule is made of titanium, its tip is fully polished and does not mark the leather, even if the blade is pushed in all the way.
The handle is ergonomic and will provide excellent comfort of use. It features a flat side that allows you to grip the awl consistently, ensuring a regular cutting angle.
You can adjust the blade's rotation relative to the handle to achieve the exact point you desire by using the screw at the end of the handle (TORX screw #15).
The blade is very sharp and comes pre-sharpened, which is a significant time-saver as this operation is often tedious. You will just need to maintain the blade's sharpness by passing it over a strop's leather occasionally.
The blade's shape has been perfectly designed to penetrate leather like butter, but also to withdraw from it without experiencing that slight sticking point common with ordinary awls.
