Description
DIAMOND AWL LEATHER GOODS
Please note, this tool is not an ordinary awl, it is the demonstration of the intelligence and know-how of a French craftsman who has completely rethought the design of an ancient tool: the awl with pliers.
While everyone thought that this tool would no longer evolve, Jérôme David now offers you a very high quality tool.
The awl is an extension of the hand, it must be pleasant to use in order to do quality work. Among all the saddler/leatherworker's tools, the awl is the one you will have most often in your hands, so you must know how to equip yourself with a good tool.
By combining aesthetics, ergonomics, precious materials and high technology, Jérôme David invented the awl that we have all dreamed of owning one day.
The blade is made of high-performance cobalt steel and comes already perfectly sharpened.
Its 2 mm width allows you to sew leather goods.
The ferrule is made of titanium , its tip is fully polished and does not mark the leather, even if the blade is pushed all the way in.
The handle is ergonomic and will provide you with excellent comfort of use, it has a flat surface which will allow you to always pick up the awl in the same way, thus allowing you to have a regular cutting angle.
You can choose the rotation of the blade relative to the handle in order to obtain exactly the point you want by using the screw at the end of the handle (TORX screw no. 15).
The blade is very sharp and comes already sharpened, a significant time saver because this operation is often tedious. You just have to keep the blade sharp by passing it from time to time over the leather of a strop.
The shape of the blade has been perfectly studied in order to penetrate the leather like butter, but also to be able to come out without having to feel that little blocking point specific to ordinary awls.
Dimensions - Leatherwork awl :
- Total length: 110 mm
- Blade length: 19 mm
- Blade width: 2 mm
- Blade thickness: 1.1 mm
- Maximum handle diameter: 30 mm
The handle is available in different types of wood :
- Ceylon lemon tree
- Cocobolo
- Gabon ebony
- Jamaican Ebony
- Pink Ivory (Pink Ivory wood)
- Tricolore , composed of 3 precious woods from 3 continents: ebony from Gabon (Africa), boxwood from the French Jura (Europe) and amourette (America). The woods react differently to variations in temperature and humidity, which is why it is possible to feel a slight demarcation between the woods when touched.
The wood comes from sustainable FSC-certified forests.
In case of a problem, the diamond-shaped blade can be changed (sold as a spare part) and is removed using a small TORX No. 6 screw on the side.
