Description

26 ARIAL DIGITS - 4 MM - MARKING AND ENGRAVING ON LEATHER

Personalize your leather creations with this kit of 21 numbers and 5 symbols, in Arial font, designed for hot or cold stamping on leather. These brass characters are perfect for embossing or engraving a date, an age, etc.

These brass characters are used in addition to a 50 mm character holder (ref. TB334_50 ) or 80 mm (ref. TB334_80 ).

They come in a handy metal box, which stores all your brass characters, including those purchased individually.

Cold use, on vegetable tanned leather :
For embossing, only natural vegetable tanned leather without finishing (which absorbs water) can be used.
Insert the letters into a character holder and then screw it onto the handle ref. TB335 . Moisten the vegetable tanned leather, then strike the handle with a mallet.

Hot use, on mineral and vegetable tanning :
For engraving, two methods are possible:

1. With an electric threading iron :
Insert the letters into the letter holder and tighten them with the 2 side screws using an Allen key. Screw the letter holder onto the threaded iron.
Heat the iron to the desired temperature, wait a few minutes to obtain a homogenization of the temperature on all the brass characters.
Apply the characters to your leather, ensuring perfect verticality.

2. With the brass handle for character holder ref. TB335 :
Insert the letters into the character holder and tighten them with the 2 side screws using an Allen key. Screw the character holder onto your handle.
Heat the brass characters with a blowtorch, for example. For best results, you can check the temperature of the characters with an infrared thermometer. Use gloves to hold the handle without burning yourself.
Apply the characters to your leather, ensuring perfect verticality, then gently strike the handle with a wooden or nylon mallet.

Depending on the leather, the temperature should be between 120 and 200°C. Thicker leather will require a higher temperature. The pressure applied, the time and the temperature will produce different results.

Using the foil :
For an even more decorative and glossy effect, you can use foil transfer paper. Cut a small piece and place the glossy side up. Set the temperature between 100 and 120°C.
Apply the characters to your leather, ensuring perfect verticality.
It is strongly recommended to test on a scrap of the same leather in order to perfect the settings.

Placing letters in the character holder :
The dot under the letters indicates the bottom of the letter, it must be positioned on the same side as the dot on the character holder.
The word is written in mirror effect. The beginning of the word is located to the right of the typeface. You can check in a mirror if the word is correctly reflected.

Marking characters on leather requires experience, which is why we always recommend testing on scraps of leather. The striking force, the inclination of the character holder, the temperature of the characters (for engraving) or the humidity of the leather (for embossing) are all variables that need to be controlled to achieve the desired result.

The 4 mm size designates the reference height for the entire font, including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. However, the exact dimensions vary slightly from one character to another.
