Seiwa tokonole comes from Japan and is used to smooth and shine the edges of natural or vegetable-tanned colored leathers. On the crust side, tokonole helps bond the leather fibers and removes fluff.
HOW IS TOKONOLE OBTAINED?
Seiwa tokonole is made from a blend of natural waxes . It is non-toxic, water-based and odorless.
VEGETABLE OR MINERAL (CHROME) TANNED LEATHER?
Seiwa Tokonole can only be applied to the edges of vegetable tanned leathers . However, on the crust side it can be applied to vegetable or mineral tanned leathers . We do not recommend using it on suede or nubuck leather (with a brushed surface).
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TOKONOLE AND GUM TRAGACANTH?
Tokonole has the same functions as tragacanth but is "more powerful."
HOW TO APPLY TOKONOLE TO THE LEATHER EDGE?
- Work the edges of the leather with a sandpaper, then sand them with an abrasive sponge. Sanding should always be done in the same direction and at a 45° angle to the edge.
- Take a small amount of tokonole using a spatula, a cloth or your fingertips and apply it to the edge of the leather.
- When the tokonole is "semi-dry", polish the edge with a wooden smoother or a soft cloth.
If the tokonole drips onto the grain of the leather, wipe it off immediately to avoid leaving any marks. Apply several coats of tokonole until you achieve the desired smoothness.
RESULT :
The edge of the leather becomes a little darker and shinier. After several years, the edge of the leather may become fuzzy again: it will be possible to revive it by reapplying tokonole.

HOW TO APPLY TOKONOLE TO LEATHER SPLIT?
1. Using a spatula or your fingertips: Apply the tokonole thinly to the leather crust. When the tokonole is "semi-dry," rub it with a tempered glass burnisher or a wooden smoother. The leather fibers are pressed, giving it a shiny finish.
2. When the tokonole is "semi-dry," rub it with a tempered glass burnisher or a wooden smoother. The leather fibers are pressed, giving it a shiny finish.
The leather crust is smooth and shiny. The leather darkens slightly where the tokonole has been applied. Tokonole is ideal for quickly and easily working leather belts.

HOW TO COLOR TOKONOLE?
1- Apply water-based dye to the edge of the leather.
2- Place some tokonole on the slice and rub briskly.
It is also possible to mix water-based stain and neutral tokonole in a small pot to further control the shade. However, you should let the mixture sit for 2 to 3 hours to thicken it.

CAUTION : To color the edges before applying the tokonole, you must choose a water-based dye and not an edge finish because it risks chipping.
